How illogical is that statement! It’s like saying you have a drill you would never need a screwdriver! You have a car you don’t need legs to walk on! True martial arts are not about fighting anyway, it is much bigger than that. It is about health, fitness, and yes self-protection. It is about self-improvement and empowerment of the mind, body, and spirit. It is a positive way of life.
Even if we reduce martial arts to just learning how to fight, good people still need it as a means of self-defense, having a gun is not enough! Do you carry a gun everywhere? In church, in the bank, while jogging or riding your bike in the park while swimming, in the shower! There are many places that would not allow you to have a gun at their facility! Also let’s keep in mind that you cannot answer every confrontation with shooting somebody! There are legal consequences for using lethal force if not justified! If a young lady goes on an innocent date and junior that we all thought is a great kid gets little out of hand , perhaps if the girl is a trained martial artist she could control junior or kick his you know what and put him in a place without putting a bullet in his face, don’t you think! If a criminal jumps out of nowhere and attacked I doubt they are going to wait for you to be ready with your gun and ammo! If you are 6, 5” armed and always ready to go that is fine, How about your loved ones and friends that perhaps are not as powerful, brave, and prepared as you, don’t you think they deserve a fighting chance! There is a reason why law enforcement across the country and US military branches such as Navy Seals and Green Berets incorporate Kali fighting into their combat training. There is absolutely no contradiction in training in weapons including guns and training in a functional martial art such as our Kuntao Kali Combat System.
If you are the Ox in the room, please beware of the Tigers and don’t make shallow statements like “I have a gun I don’t need martial arts!”
