Generally speaking participating in any traditional martial art would be beneficial to youth depending on the art. Filipino Kali is universally known as a functional effective fighting art; in fact most branches of military and law enforcement across the US teach some type of Kali as part of their combat training. For example, Combat CFMA Head Instructor Sifu/Guru Louis teaches police and other law enforcement personnel on a regular basis in the areas of subject control, self-defense versus weapon and empty hand, and tactical combat for real life confrontations stand-up and ground.
In addition to being a functional and effective self-defense art there are various other benefits to our Kali Combat System such as discipline, respect, self-control, improving coordination, reflexes, balance, strength, speed, flexibility as well as overall health and wellness, and the promotion of a positive way of life. At Combat CFMA we emphasize that it is not about fighting it is about healthy living, self-defense, self-preservation, and the protection of family and loved ones.
Because Kali actually works one could get the impression that it is only a type of street MMA training, however this could not be any further from the truth! Our Kali is not only a functional combat art that is perfectly suited for real life confrontation, but it is also a traditional art that teaches ethics, morality, philosophy, and culture. Our teachings are guided by our Lineage to martial arts legends, Sifu/Guru Dan Inosanto and the late Bruce Lee.
We provide kids with effective skills so they don’t have to fight unless it is absolutely necessary! We teach them how to read intent, body language, how to detect the beginning of an attack, estimate and anticipate the possibility of a weapon present or being used, and group mentality vs. individual behavior. In most cases youth do not have to use their Kali skills because their increased awareness and the way they carry themselves will deter many possible attacks.
Violence is becoming more common in today’s society making the ability to defend oneself even more important. This ability gives youth and parents more confidence and peace of mind especially in those instances where avoiding a confrontation is not possible. We simply teach our Kali Kids how to deal with real life confrontation and how not to be a target or a victim. In situations where they have to fight, mastering a functional effective art like Kali that has been battle tested and is still being used today by the military and law enforcement gives them the opportunity to successfully protect themselves.
Developing proper martial arts attributes early in life contributes to a healthier and more positive adulthood making it even more important to get youth into our Kali Combat Kids training program now.
